Book Signing Party at D.C.’s Border’s Celebrates Royal's Living the Jazz Life: Conversations with Forty Musicians about Their Careers in Jazz (Oxford University Press, 2000)

Featured in the Washington D.C. store's Jazz Conversations series, Royal was interviewed by poet and Smithsonian jazz archivist, Rubin Jackson. Two jazz musicians profiled in the book, tenor saxophonist Ron Holloway and pianist John Eaton.provided music to an overflow audience along with bassist Steve Novosel pianist Harry Appelman and drummer Mike Smith.
